PlayStation will stop allowing new PS4 games to use several legacy PSN features starting Spring 2026

Documentation shows PlayStation will block new PlayStation 4 title submissions from integrating several legacy PSN features beginning in Spring 2026.

PlayStation plans to prevent new PlayStation 4 title submissions from integrating a set of legacy PSN features starting in Spring 2026, a document obtained by Insider Gaming. That change only affects new PS4 submissions, but it signals that PlayStation is moving toward a slimmer service footprint for the aging console. The documentation states, “this means that any new PS4 title submitted after this date will no longer be able to integrate with the following legacy features.” The features listed for removal are:

  • Activity Feed Web API
  • Title Small Storage (TSS)
  • Title User Storage (TUS)
  • Users and Profiles
  • Word Filters
  • Shared Media Web API

PlayStation describes the move as intended to provide “a more unified and scalable foundation across console generations.” The guidance applies specifically to new games submitted for the PlayStation 4 after Spring 2026, not to existing titles that already use these services.

The PlayStation 4 launched in 2013 and will be approaching its 12th anniversary when this change takes effect, while the PlayStation 5 is nearing its fifth year on the market. Many players still use PS4 hardware, and major releases such as Call of Duty have continued to ship on the platform, so the change could affect developers who still target PS4 with new builds.

This change narrows the scope of new PS4 games that can integrate with the backend, which matters for developers still supporting the console as the ecosystem shifts toward newer hardware. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X and Bluesky.
