As Sony loves to call it, the Future of Gaming digital event has introduced the public with PlayStation 5 peripherals and accessories. Destined to launch in holiday 2020, Sony hasn’t revealed any PS4 compatible accessories with the PS5. Not until today, when Sony decided to show the compatibility of PS4 peripherals with the next-gen platform.
In a recent blog post, Sony has answered multiple questions regarding the PS4 peripherals/accessories and their compatibility with the PS5. For instance, DualShock 4, the PS4 controller is working with PS5 but is not compatible with PS5 games. Below you can find the complete list of answers, as posted on PlayStation’s official blog.
Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?
- Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
- The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
- The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
- Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
I guess backward compatible games will be the only ones that will be playable on the old controller, while any new releases will have to be played with the new DualSense controller.
