PlayStation Plans on Creating a New Subscription Service Similar To Xbox Game Pass

Sony is allegedly working on a new subscription service to compete with Microsoft’s famous Xbox Game Pass. The service, according to Bloomberg, is codenamed Spartacus, and will bring a catalog of games available for just a monthly fee. The new subscription service will merge both the existing ones, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now.

While further details are scarce, Bloomberg shared that the service will include three tiers. One will consist of the PlayStation Plus benefits. The second would offer an extensive catalog of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. The third would include extended demos, game streaming, and a library of classic games available on the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games.

The new PlayStation subscription service is expected to launch in the spring, distorting some existing brandings. Due to the nature of PlayStation Now, which allows users to stream games, the following service might be its replacement, completely removing PlayStation Now from the list and adding the new subscription service alongside the PlayStation Plus.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass needs better competition and will maybe finally get one. Currently, Xbox Game Pass is the best subscription service on the market that allows video games from tons of renowned publishers for just a monthly fee. The majority of video game titles available at Xbox Game Pass can be played both on Xbox and PC, so Sony’s next subscription service must find an answer to that.

No matter what Bloomberg’s reading says, we have to remain calm and witness further clues and eventually an official announcement by Sony before we jump the board. So far, it seems promising. Developing…
