Player pushes Maelle past 1.1 billion damage on Clair Obscur’s hardest boss with post-update build

A new 'Thank You' update weapon, the Licorum, combined with the Frenzy Picto and heavy status‑stack consumption lets Maelle breach 1.1 billion on Simon after the patch.

After Sandfall Interactive’s free “Thank You” update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a player demonstrated a Maelle build that dealt more than 1.1 billion damage to Simon, the game’s toughest boss. The setup shown by YouTuber BltzZ centers on the new Licorum weapon and the Frenzy Picto, both added in the post-Game Awards update. Licorum stacks a 10 percent buff per skill hit and Frenzy provides the same buff effect, which together raise Maelle’s base damage while the build consumes very large stacks of status effects such as burn, mark, and shields all at once.

Burning Canvas is the primary attack in the video. That skill hits five times, and the build amplifies the final hit through several multipliers. One comes from Gradient Overcharge, a Picto interaction that consumes Gradient to deal double damage. Another is Feint, which cancels damage for the first four hits then boosts the fifth hit to deal 600 percent damage. On top of those mechanics, Sciel and Lune apply the necessary marks and burns, and Sciel also casts Fortune’s Fury to grant Maelle a 200 percent damage boost.

BltzZ’s footage shows the full rotation and gear list, along with the timing needed to consume more than 100 status stacks during the burst window. The video is available on YouTube for players who want a step-by-step breakdown.

The scale of this result follows the game’s earlier balance changes. In the first patch after release, Maelle took several nerfs that reduced the power of her Medalum weapon and cut Stendhal’s effect by forty percent, trimming one of her most dominant late-game options. The new update does not restore those older values but offers fresh equipment and Pictos that combine in ways players are still testing.

For context on the update’s timing, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received a high-profile boost at The Game Awards 2025 and Sandfall shipped the free content soon afterward. Console & PC Gaming’s coverage of the game’s success at the show includes a look at its nine awards and how the wins affected the post-release content rollout. Read the post on the game’s Game Awards sweep for more on the update’s origin and Sandfall’s follow-up plans. Players interested in trying the Maelle build should watch BltzZ’s breakdown and be prepared to stack and consume status effects precisely while stacking Licorum and Frenzy buffs.
