If you’ve been climbing in Peak, this update is worth a look. It’s mostly about smoothing out rough edges and fixing bugs, but there are also a couple of new features to explore at the crash site. Plus, some neat changes that might just make your mountain runs a bit less frustrating.
The devs are still cooking up bigger content, so hang tight if you’re waiting for something huge. Here’s the rundown of what’s new and fixed in Patch v1.8.
Patch Notes
FEATURES:
- New Reduce Camera Bobbing option available in the main menu settings. This should help players prone to motion sickness, though it’s not perfect because of the game’s physics system. Worth trying out and giving feedback!
- The game now pauses during Offline Play. Finally, a breather when you need it.
- Added biome-specific sunset and sunrise music for a bit more atmosphere.
- Two new items landed at the crash site: the Flying Disc and Binoculars. The Flying Disc can bonk enemies like the coconut if thrown hard enough. The binoculars… well, they’re binoculars. Neat for scouting!
BALANCE CHANGES:
- The Blowgun no longer appears in Solo Play sessions.
- The Anti-Rope Cannon now weighs zero and has no gravity, plus its art and icon got an update. The devs just felt like it.
- Guidebook Scrolls spawn in chronological order wherever you are on the mountain now, which should make the Bookworm Badge less of a grind. Also, they have a chance to spawn every run instead of being tied to a daily seed. Sorry to those who struggled before!
MAJOR FIXES:
- Fixed a hilarious bug where players could win the game by dying. Yup, the code only checked your position on the mountain, not whether you were alive. No more victory by cliff dive or void glitch!
- Performance improvements in the Caldera and Kiln biomes. If you still get low framerates there, the devs want to hear about it.
- Total run time syncing is now tied to the host’s clock, so Speedrun achievements should be consistent for everyone. No more sad stories of players having different times by a second!
- Fixed reconnect issues from the top of the Alpine biome onwards.
- Players can no longer have multiple ticks on them at the same time. The devs admit they’re not that evil.
- The Napberry Plant should work correctly again.
- Another attempt to fix rare campfire lighting failures. Hopefully it really sticks this time.
- Reduced the intensity of explosive spore effects to try and prevent crashes related to explosions. Please report if crashes still happen.
- Fixed a bug where the screen could turn permanently black if revived while switching spectate targets.
- Fixed the chain launcher sometimes spawning broken and not launching chains.
- Corrected an achievement bug where feeding items to friends counted as them eating it for some badges.
- Fixed rare achievement trigger failures.
- The Gourmand badge now requires items to be cooked before eating. Watch out!
MINOR FIXES:
- Removed access to the cinematic camera used for trailers. Oops.
- Fixed guidebook visibility issues in first-person when stored in a backpack.
- Corrected stamina bar weight display after placing pitons while climbing.
- Fixed soft-lock issues when a held Rope Spool is incinerated by lava during tying off.
- Added PUSH-TO-TALK info on the Controls page for gamepad users.
- Weight now updates correctly after passing out and dropping all items.
