PAYDAY 3 just rolled out its 2.1.4 update, adding a new game mode called Smash & Grab and gifting players the Spearfish 1895 rifle for free. This patch also includes many bug fixes and tweaks that touch on gameplay, UI, skills, and more, eager to polish the experience for everyone.
Smash & Grab is a stripped-down, fast-paced mode designed to be more approachable. While it’s pitched as a way to welcome new players, I imagine even the hardened PAYDAY crew will get a kick out of its pure, frantic heisting style. The update also introduces a powerful new weapon, the Spearfish 1895, which blends rapid fire and stopping power in a neat package—and it’s free for all players!
Smash & Grab Mode Details
- Boys in Blue: Cops have stopped several cars suspected of drug smuggling. Your job? Get in, snatch the stash, and get out fast.
- No Rest for the Wicked: Keep it simple and quick—grab as much loot as possible without wasting time.
Spearfish 1895 Rifle
A new take on a classic, this rifle offers rapid fire combined with solid power. It’s now free for everyone, so if you haven’t tried it yet, now’s your chance.
Gameplay Fixes
- Fixed weapon targeting sway on the R900S.
- Repair kits now only restore the current armor plate.
- Dozers no longer stop shooting when heavily staggered.
- Sentry turret placement flicker reduced during lag.
- New players get a silencer on the S40 pistol by default.
Skill Changes
- Throwing knives with the ‘Retriever’ skill now always return one knife.
Technical Fixes
- Friends-only lobbies created before adding a friend can now be joined by that friend.
- Preplanning assets no longer consumed on heist restart.
- Fixed infamy resetting to level 1 and XP only leveling Renown.
- Another fix for login issues related to loadout names.
UI Updates
- Added missing text for Voyeur Optic.
- Disabled keypads now show a ‘disabled’ prompt.
- Fixed ESC key causing loading screen loops on photo-sensitive warnings.
- Minor visual HUD updates as a first step to improving visuals.
- Fixed flickering navbar in main menu button borders.
- Fixed backwards navigation from the character tab.
- Added outlines to show which drone is in focus during hacking.
Art and Audio
- Fixed Justicar sight.
- Flying security drones no longer show red light cones after alarms.
- “Kinetic Short-Circuit” stun animation now visible to other players.
- New facial dialogue animations for player characters.
- Added missing sound effects on glass railings in Fear and Greed heist.
- Sentry turret sounds no longer get stuck on rotate when killed.
Heist Adjustments
No Rest for the Wicked
- Fixed bug where killing all managers and using thermite caused no enemies to spawn in first assault.
Boys in Blue
- Improved drone pathing in evidence corridor.
- Added animation and bigger interaction area to car lift button.
First World Bank
- Players can no longer secure loot in vents when using chopper escape favor.
Important Note About Mods
If you’re running the PD3 Mod Loader while playing patch 2.1.4, your Infamy level will appear as level 1, and you won’t be able to access items or progress Infamy properly. It’s best to disable the Mod Loader to avoid this issue.
