Is it time for Patapon fans to rejoice? Speculation is swirling that Patapon 3, a classic rhythm action gem from Sony, might soon waltz its way into the PlayStation Plus Classics library. If you’ve ever commanded an army of adorable eyeballs, you know this one’s got nostalgia written all over it.
The buzz kicked off when Orbis Patches, a site dedicated to tracking updates for PS4 games, unearthed a mysterious PSN entry for our beloved eyeball warriors. As reported by Gematsu, this could mean something’s cooking in Sony’s kitchen, and we might be getting an announcement sooner rather than later.
The first two titles from this series got a shiny remaster with 4K visuals on the PS4 and are hanging out on PlayStation Plus Premium. But where’s the third entry? It’s like waiting for your friend who always says, “Five more minutes.” With February’s Game Catalog reveal expected on February 12, fingers crossed we get some juicy news then!
Patapon originally graced us with its presence back in 2007 on the PSP, bringing rhythm-based fun mixed with platforming and action, who didn’t love commanding those cute little creatures through catchy beats? The sequel followed in 2008; by 2011, we had the third installment, which many eagerly hoped to see again.
This revival chatter comes at an enjoyable time; earlier this year, those behind Ratatan, the spiritual successor to Patapon, crushed their Kickstarter goal by tenfold. It seems there’s still plenty of love for these quirky little heroes. Hiroyuki Kotani, one of the franchise’s original creators, didn’t close any doors when asked about future collaborations with Sony during discussions around Ratatan.
During their CES presentation last January, Sony even hinted at new projects within this franchise. Could we be witnessing a renaissance for our favorite Patapons? Only time will tell!
The latest PlayStation Plus Essential titles arrived last week, featuring gems like Payday 3, but it’s hard not to look ahead and wonder what else might be lurking just around the corner. What do you think? Are you ready to again lead your army of eyeballs into battle against foes set to catchy tunes?
This could be just what players need: a trip down memory lane filled with rhythmic battles and charming visuals. Share your thoughts below! Until the next time, see you around! Angel out.
