Palworld designer and Pocketpair publishing manager John ‘Bucky’ Buckley told players on Discord that adding terraforming to Palworld would mean rebuilding the entire terrain system and wiping all existing save files.
The exchange started when a fan proposed a way to smooth terrain to make base-building easier. Bucky responded directly in the server, saying, “The world in Palworld isn’t voxel-based, so this sort of thing isn’t possible without totally reworking the entire terrain engine. It’s worth considering if we ever do any sort of spin-off or sequel though!” You can read the message on Discord here.
When community members suggested creating new worlds to avoid touching existing saves, Bucky pushed back again: “I’m not sure you realize how much work that would be haha. Reworking the terrain system is… a year+ of development and it would require all save files to be wiped.” He added that, while it’s “something to consider for a hypothetical Palworld 2 or something,” it’s not planned for the current game.
Players who follow Pocketpair’s public posts might remember Bucky asking people to stop dragging themselves into comment fights; his earlier comments about that are linked in the story archive about his call for calmer discussions.
