Overwatch 2 Season 17 is rolling out with notable changes that could disrupt your play, especially in Stadium, the game’s wild spin-off mode. This update focuses on more player choice and adds three new heroes, each with seriously potent skills.
Senior game designer Dylan Snyder says plainly: “It’s all about giving you more customisation, freedom, and tools to raise your game across all of Overwatch 2.” Along with a new Flashpoint map called Morocco and tweaks to Junk City and Suravasa, the season introduces map voting, letting players pick from three maps to play in Quick Play and Competitive modes. That’s a little power back in your hands.
Season 17 also debuts seasonal updates for Stadium, featuring three heroes: Sigma, Junkrat, and Zenyatta. Senior systems designer Connor Kou says they bring “fresh energy and strategies,” while UI artist Sadie Boyd warns there will be “lots of projectiles.” Yikes, right?
Junkrat’s arrival has me a bit on edge. Stadium is already a chaotic mess of explosions and shields, and Junkrat is the poster child for mayhem. His Powers amp up his chaos: Big Bang makes his grenades 33% bigger with each bounce, Slapnel causes melee hits to explode and knock targets back, and Rainin’ Lead drops a Total Mayhem bomb after a concussion mine jump. Not exactly subtle.
For players who like precision, Junkrat’s Powers Bingo! and Bango! Reward direct hits by reducing cooldowns by 25% and adding 20% burn damage for two seconds, respectively. So if you can actually aim those grenades, you’ll have some neat tools at your disposal.
Alongside Junkrat, Sigma brings a charming little rotating shield that hovers around him constantly. It’s a mini version of his usual shield but with a twist—if you pick Philharmonic Fortitude, it can heal nearby allies. That’s a nice touch.
Zenyatta sports a more straightforward set of Powers focused on his orbs, melee, and ultimate. His Circle of Strife ability adds Discord Orbs to all enemies within range of his Transcendence, granting his team temporary immortality while weakening foes. Something that’ll rile people up.
The stadium is also getting a much-needed pre-build section. You can save your custom builds or copy others from the armoury, scoreboard, replays, or game reports. Adding descriptions to each build lets you explain your strategy or thought process. Sadie Boyd says, “These tools make sure you have everything to create, organise, and share with ease.” It’s a quality-of-life update Stadium fans have wanted for ages.
