No Man’s Sky recent update and how to fix Version Mismatch error

How to clear the multiplayer Version Mismatch error after Hello Games' recent update

A recent update to No Man’s Sky by Hello Games has added new content, but for some players, it has also produced a persistent Version Mismatch error that prevents them from joining multiplayer sessions. That matters because the problem can stop groups from playing together for a few days after a patch, and there are simple checks to try.

Version Mismatch error explained

The Version Mismatch error appears when a multiplayer session is started and at least one copy of the game is not on the same build as the host. It is not a save corruption or hardware fault in most cases – it simply means the client and host are running different versions. Players attempting to connect will be blocked until all participants are on the same build. Often this happens right after an update is released while installs and server-side updates are still completing.

How to fix Version Mismatch in No Man’s Sky

First, confirm that every machine in the group has applied the latest patch. The most common cause is a friend who hasn’t updated their game; installing the update on every platform usually resolves the problem. Next, allow time for server-side rollout to finish. After a large patch, matchmaking and multiplayer systems sometimes take a few days to stabilise as additional minor fixes and hotfixes are applied. If the error persists despite all players showing the same version, waiting 24 to 72 hours often clears the issue as backend services catch up. When problems continue after that window, reporting the behaviour through official channels helps the developer track persistent issues.
