No Man’s Sky Cosmos lets players buy stations and strip explosive space hulks on PS5 today
The free PS5 update adds space hulks, player-owned stations, orbital bases, a system map, alliance leaderboards, and the 10th-anniversary Our Journey Continues! Expedition.

No Man’s Sky has turned space into a much busier place. Hello Games’ free Cosmos update is live on PS5 today, September 9, giving existing PlayStation players new ways to salvage hulks, explore asteroid belts, build orbital bases, and claim a space station of their own.
Players can buy a system’s space station, decorate it inside and out, and turn it into a clubhouse for visiting friends. In its official PlayStation Blog announcement, Hello Games described Cosmos as a broad overhaul of the game’s space systems during its 10th anniversary year, following more than 40 free updates.
A new star map fills each system with targets
Each warp into a system now begins with a scan of its solar-system map. Points of interest can lead to missions, resources, strange anomalies, and other activities scattered through the surrounding space.
Asteroid belts add more than scenery. Rock and ice formations contain crystal resources, while some of the larger asteroids can be landed on and used as foundations for star bases. Free-floating modular bases can also be built anywhere in space, whether the goal is a quiet stop for passing ships, an orbital restaurant, or a military outpost.
Space hulks turn salvage into a risky job
Space hulks offer a new way to gather materials, but stripping them takes care. The physics gravity gun can pull chunks of metal from a wreck, then send them to a tractor beam fitted to the player’s ship. Scanning for the best rewards before salvaging is the safer approach, since taking too much from a hulk can trigger a meltdown and explosion.

Hello Games boss Sean Murray also pointed to the hulks as a showcase for the game’s new volumetric lighting technology. The Cosmos deep-dive video provides a closer look at the update’s new space activities and systems.
Alien-trading outposts provide another reason to stop between planets. Players can trade with alien lifeforms, buy maps, gather information about the area, and accept missions. Some facilities have been overtaken by biological hazards, turning them into locations that must be cleared before they can be reclaimed.
Player alliances link stations across the galaxy
Alliances can invite other players, build a network of stations, and compete on leaderboards for the largest, richest, or most prominent organization. Sean Murray described communities that could involve tens of thousands of players.
Stations can serve as the foundation for a networked empire, while orbital bases give players more freedom to build away from planetary surfaces. Players can even attempt the dangerous trip to the center of their own star system.

Our Journey Continues! revisits a decade of updates
The Our Journey Continues! Expedition rounds out the release by turning No Man’s Sky’s history into a playable museum. Each milestone revisits one of the 40-plus updates released during the past decade, with gameplay based on features from that period and logs about how each update came together.
Players can revisit moments from the game’s long history while using the new systems introduced in Cosmos. For the complete feature list, read Hello Games’ official COSMOS patch notes.
No Man’s Sky Cosmos is available now on PS5 as a free download for existing PlayStation players. Hello Games has not announced a separate price or paid edition for the content.
