The Witcher 4 is stirring up quite the conversation, and not all of it is positive. As we enter 2025, the gaming community finds itself embroiled in yet another controversy, revolving around our beloved Ciri. It seems that some fans are convinced that CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has made changes to her appearance. Spoiler alert: they haven’t.
Last year’s trailer unveiled a more mature Ciri taking center stage. We witnessed her battling a monster in a cinematic quest to save a young girl from a grim fate. However, as the trailer circulated, certain factions of the fanbase began to raise eyebrows over her new look.
A few vocal fans dissected her facial features with bone structure diagrams, arguing that she somehow lost her charm compared to her younger self. This sparked a wave of speculation and debate across forums and social media platforms.
This week, CDPR dropped a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the creation of that very trailer. Fans were quick to celebrate what they believed was a response from the developers, an apparent tweak to make Ciri “hotter.” But hold your horses! That’s not quite what happened.
According to CDPR’s Sebastian Kalemba, the model seen in the behind-the-scenes footage is identical to what was presented in the original trailer. The discrepancies arise not from alterations but from different presentation techniques. What fans saw was raw footage without facial animations or lighting effects, merely a work-in-progress snapshot before cinematic enhancements were applied.

Kalemba elaborated: “At this point, any character’s appearance may vary depending on the medium, whether it’s in a trailer, a 3D model, or in-game.” So, while players will experience some in-engine cinematics, they might not be as elaborate as that initial reveal.
Ciri’s look remains consistent; this isn’t some conspiracy or marketing ploy. It’s simply how game development evolves. As we await more updates on The Witcher 4, we might have to exercise some patience since the game is still quite far from release.
