Nintendo’s upcoming vehicular basketball game, Drag x Drive, will have a free trial event ahead of its full release on Nintendo Switch 2. This trial will give players the opportunity to test the game during exclusive online sessions, available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members. It’s a neat opportunity to try out what appears to be a distinct take on competitive sports gaming.

The event, called Drag x Drive: Global Jam, will allow players to download the game before its official launch and play during three scheduled time slots:

Trial Sessions

  • Saturday, August 9th: 3:00 – 7:00 PT / 11:00 – 15:00 UK time
  • 17:00 – 21:00 PT / 01:00 – 05:00 UK time
  • Sunday, August 10th: 9:00 – 13:00 PT / 17:00 – 21:00 UK time

The full game will release on August 14 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Drag x Drive is a wheelchair basketball game where players use the motion controls of both Joy-Con 2 controllers to simulate moving a wheelchair forward and backward. Lifting one of the controllers triggers a throw, eager to get the ball in the basket and score points. It’s a pretty clever use of the hardware, giving a fresh spin on sports gameplay.

The game seems focused on 3v3 online matches, as there’s no sign of other team sizes or solo modes so far. At a budget-friendly price point of $20 / £17, it should be accessible to a wide audience. Will this free trial convince players to jump in and form teams? That’s the big question. Personally, I’m curious if the distinct control scheme will click with the wider audience or remain a niche curiosity. Either way, it’s kinda refreshing to see Nintendo trying something offbeat and letting players test-drive it first.

What do you think about a wheelchair basketball game using motion controls on Switch 2? Will you give the trial a shot? Let me know in the comments below!
