Nintendo announced an Indie World live stream scheduled for this Thursday, August 7. It’s a quick 15-minute showcase dedicated to indie games coming to both the Switch and the newer Switch 2. That’s right, a neat little spotlight on indie titles that could surprise us all.
The stream will kick off at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST, and you can catch it on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel or right here via the embedded video above. Short and sweet, but packed with potential. I mean, why only 15 minutes? Maybe Nintendo’s keeping the indie news tight and tidy this time.
Just last week, Nintendo held a 25-minute Direct Partner Showcase focused on third-party games for Switch and Switch 2. That event revealed some cool stuff like a new Monster Hunter Stories 3 from Capcom coming to Switch 2 next year, and Octopath Traveler 0 arriving this December on both consoles from Square Enix. Plus, Square Enix announced a fresh HD-2D RPG called The Adventure of Elliot: The Millennium Tales for Switch 2. Let’s not forget Sega confirming Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 for Switch 2 in November. Quite a lineup, right?
Switch 2 itself is still riding high, having sold over 6 million units in its first seven weeks. That’s a record for Nintendo, easily outpacing the PS5 launch shipments in a similar timeframe, even if Sony had stock issues. So the spotlight on indie games might be a way to keep that momentum going, but with a focus on smaller titles.
Wonder what hidden gems will pop up during the Indie World stream? Will Nintendo surprise us with some unexpected indie hits or collaborations? Only one way to find out. I’m setting an alarm for this one!
