June just got a whole lot busier, or at least gave us, journalists, a bit more work to attend to. Nintendo just revealed that their next Direct presentation is set for June 18th at 10 AM ET. This one’s gonna be juicy, focusing on games coming in the second half of 2024. Expect a solid 40 minutes of pure Nintendo goodness.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: No, we’re not getting any info about the much-anticipated Switch successor. Nintendo made it clear that the Switch 2 (or whatever they’ll call it) isn’t expected until 2025. So, if you were hoping for a glimpse of next-gen hardware, you won’t be getting it. They straight-up said, “There will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.”

What makes this Direct so crucial is the current state of the Switch lineup for the rest of the year. Let’s be honest, it’s looking a bit thin. Sure, we’ve got Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD dropping on June 27th and Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition on July 18th. But beyond that? It’s a ghost town. The first half of 2024 saw some remakes like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and the Another Code collection, and a few new titles like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Endless Ocean Luminous.
This Direct is coming at the end of a packed few weeks for gaming news. We started with Sony’s State of Play, rolled into the Summer Game Fest Live with all its associated events, and then hit the Xbox Games Showcase. And now, Nintendo is stepping up to the plate.
Here’s what I think. Nintendo has a habit of keeping things under wraps, and this Direct could be a chance for them to pull a few rabbits out of their hat. We might see some surprise announcements or even some new IPs to fill the gaps in the lineup. Either way, it’s gonna be worth tuning in.
If you’re a Switch owner like me, you’re probably itching for some fresh content. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some killer reveals. I’ll be live-streaming my reaction to the Direct, so come hang out and let’s see what Nintendo has in store for us.
