The Nintendo Switch 2 made a strong impression in the US during its first month, selling over 1.6 million units in June. That’s a record for video game hardware launch month sales in the country, beating the PlayStation 4’s launch back in 2013, which sold 1.1 million units.
According to data from Circana, the Switch 2 was the best-selling console in both units and dollars during June. This turnaround is notable, as the original Switch had been lagging behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for some time.
Video game hardware sales surged 249% month-over-month in June, reaching a total of $948 million spent. This figure is the highest ever recorded for June, surpassing the previous record of $608 million set in 2008. That boost also helped lift the year-to-date sales by 17%, after a 26% drop through May.
While the Switch 2 dominated June, the PlayStation 5 still holds the title for best-selling console in the US for the year so far in both units and revenue.
Accessory sales also saw a jump, increasing 29% year-over-year to $293 million in June, another record for that month. The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller had a 32% attach rate to Switch 2 sales, making it the top-selling accessory in dollars for June. For comparison, June 2021 previously held the record for accessory sales with $247 million.
