The Pokémon Company has officially revealed the next English Pokémon Card set, Destined Rivals. This expected release will be available on May 30 and combines elements from Japanese sets Heat Wave Arena and The Glory of Team Rocket.

“Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals will see the return of the popular Trainer’s Pokémon mechanic, but with a twist,” a description from Pokémon reads. The introduction of the infamous Team Rocket — known for their villainous antics in the Pokémon universe — adds an absorbing layer to gameplay.

Players can choose their allegiance by aligning with heroic duos like Ethan and Ho-Oh ex, or Cynthia and Garchomp ex. Alternatively, they can embrace mischief by teaming up with Team Rocket under Giovanni’s command, featuring iconic characters like Mewtwo ex.

The Destined Rivals set will include:

  • 83 new cards tagged as Team Rocket’s
  • 17 Pokémon ex, including 10 Trainer’s Pokémon ex
  • 23 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 11 special illustration rare Pokémon
  • Six hyper rare gold-etched cards

A first look at the Elite Trainer Box reveals interesting artwork featuring Giovanni and Mewtwo.

This is not just a set announcement; players can join Prerelease tournaments to test these new cards before their launch. These tournaments are part of the Play! The Pokémon program will begin on May 17 at participating independent retailers.

The Pokemon Company has more in store beyond just cards; they have confirmed a line of new Team Rocket merchandise that’s arriving alongside the release of Pokémon: The Glory of Team Rocket. So far, confirmed items include clothing items such as t-shirts and bags. However, it’s still unclear whether these products will be accessible through online stores outside Japan.
