A modding group is working on a multiplayer addition for Just Cause 4 and has released a second gameplay teaser trailer to show what players might expect. It’s interesting because Just Cause 4 was initially designed as a single-player experience, so this mod could open new ways to enjoy the game with friends.
Released in December 2018, Just Cause 4 puts you in the shoes of rogue agent Rico Rodriguez, traveling to the fictional country of Solis. You get to use a wingsuit and a fully customizable grappling hook, which are iconic features of the series. Some felt this entry was a bit of a step back compared to Just Cause 3, but maybe the multiplayer mod will bring a fresh twist.
This mod won’t let you play the campaign cooperatively, though. Instead, it will focus on allowing players look at the world together and create activities that support multiple players. It’s a different kind of multiplayer experience, more sandbox-style than story-driven.
The team is preparing to release the first version later this year, probably in late 2025. There’s no exact date yet, so patience will be key. The teaser trailer shows some rough edges, like occasional sync issues, but the fact that a multiplayer mode is even possible here is pretty impressive. It highlights how mods can completely change how a game feels and plays, sometimes giving it a second life.
Mods like this one remind us just how creative and skilled modders can be when they focus on something they love. I wonder how many players will jump in once it’s out. Will it bring a new crowd to Cause 4 or give old fans a reason to return? Either way, it’s a cool development to watch.
