Never’s End Is a Tactics RPG Where You Rebuild a Town and Control the Elements

Former Octopath and Destiny devs deliver a Final Fantasy Tactics-inspired RPG with town building and elemental combat.

Never’s End instantly caught my attention because it combines two things I dig: tactical, grid-based combat and the chance to rebuild a town that looks cooler as you upgrade it. Coming from devs behind Octopath Traveller and Destiny, this one might scratch that itch if you love strategy RPGs and town management.

Imagine moving chibi warriors around a grid, facing off against skeletons and ghouls, but with a twist: you’re a reincarnated immortal warrior made of living metal who can mess with the forces of nature. You can shuffle heat to create gusts of wind, freeze enemies by draining heat, create water currents, and even reshape the terrain with stone. It’s like the elements themselves are your toolkit for tactical mayhem.

The combat reminded me of those chaotic moments in Larian’s games where your actions drastically change the battlefield. The way you can permanently alter the map by bending elements is kinda wild and adds a new layer of strategy.

On top of that, you get to upgrade towns, temples, and other locations to build businesses, establish trade routes, and recruit new allies. Making a village look cooler while managing its growth lights up my brain like a solar flare. I love the logistics side of games, and this looks like it’s right up that alley.

Isn’t it rare to find a tactical RPG that lets you fight and shape the world and community around you? I’m curious if this balance will hold up when the game releases, but it’s got me hooked just by the trailer and premise.

This might be worth watching for those still holding onto their love for Final Fantasy Tactics. Never’s End is coming to Steam soon, and I’ll dive in as soon as it hits. What about you? Do you enjoy tactical RPGs with town-building elements or prefer pure combat-focused titles? Let me know in the comments!
