If you thought the Need for Speed franchise had hit the brakes for good, think again. EA has come out to say that while things are quiet right now, it doesn’t mean the series is gone forever. Instead, they hit pause while Criterion Software focuses on another big project.
The developers behind last year’s Need for Speed Unbound, Criterion, are putting all their energy into the next installment of Battlefield. Vince Zampella from EA mentioned that it was crucial to listen to what players want from Need for Speed before bringing it back. Sounds like they’re taking player feedback seriously this time around.
According to Zampella’s chat with Eurogamer, “The Need for Speed team at Criterion are joining their colleagues working on Battlefield. As a company, it was important to us to take the last year to listen to our Need for Speed community and use their feedback to create content for Unbound.” So yes, they’re aware we want more speed and less waiting!
This means there’s no new game in development yet, so if you’re hoping for an announcement soon, you might need some patience. Fans may have a wait ahead of them before we see those flashy cars tearing up tracks again.
The bright side? When they bring back Need for Speed, it sounds like it’ll be shaped by what we want as players rather than just another quick cash grab. What do you think? Will Criterion knock it out of the park when they finally return? Let’s hear your thoughts down below!
