The first seasonal update for NBA The Run is available now on Xbox Series X|S. Wave One – 2000s Legends is free and adds five historic NBA stars, new camera options, Practice Mode, Custom Matches, fresh courts, licensed music, and gameplay changes detailed in Xbox Wire’s announcement.
Five 2000s legends join the roster
Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, and Dirk Nowitzki now join the game’s 3v3 streetball lineup. Each legend comes with signature moves and an alternate jersey inspired by their era.
Players can unlock the legends individually for 5,000 Cred, which is earned through normal progression. The full group is also available as the 2000s Legends DLC pack for $9.99 through the Microsoft Store listing.

New cameras make the court easier to read
Drive Cam places the view behind the controlled player and points toward the attacking basket. Drive Flip Cam changes the perspective between the offensive and defensive ends, giving players another way to judge passing lanes, spacing, and defensive positioning.
Practice Mode lets players face the CPU on any court and ruleset, while Custom Matches support private online games with up to five friends in Knockout Solos or Knockout Squads. Neither mode affects progression or awards Cred, so both provide a pressure-free place to test lineups and learn the new views.
Run Anthems brings 11 licensed tracks
The update adds 11 licensed songs from artists connected to the game’s New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles courts. Players can choose the licensed playlist, the original score, or a blend of both in the settings menu. The playlist was also reviewed with Bobbito Garcia, the game’s announcer and a creator of “The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show.”
Belts, courts, and new gameplay options
Championship Belts give players a reason to work through more of the roster. Knockout Squads and Knockout Solos each have their own belt, with progress shown in the main menu for comparison with friends.
Wave One also adds the Dyckman court in Day and Tournament versions, along with Spring Garden Elementary, to the Knockout Tournament rotation. New driving layups, standing dunks, alley-oops, advanced dunk animations, taunts, banners, badges, and alternate jerseys expand the options on and off the court. Gameplay tuning also reduces goaltending after player feedback highlighted it as a priority.

Play By Play Studios is also targeting a Campaign for Spring 2027, giving the game another planned way to experience its streetball world beyond the current tournament format.
