Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann hinted that there may not be another The Last of Us game following the latest installment. Instead, the studio is focused on delivering Intergalactic, a fresh intellectual property. However, new claims suggest they might also have another project under wraps.
The information regarding this secret project was shared publicly by The Game Post. The report states:
Naughty Dog has a second project (not The Last of Us III), directed by Shaun Escayg. It’s been in development for three years now.
Druckmann elaborated on his earlier comments regarding the franchise’s future after suggesting fans shouldn’t expect another sequel anytime soon. He noted that even The Last of Us felt so definitive when released in 2013 that creating a follow-up seemed unlikely unless “the stars align.” While we may see The Last of Us Part III, it remains uncertain.
For now, however, Naughty Dog appears to be focused on crafting something new and mysterious, with leadership coming from someone deeply connected to the Uncharted series.
The last primary entry in the Uncharted saga was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, launched in 2016, followed by the standalone expansion titled The Lost Legacy. Although there have been whispers about a potential title featuring Cassie Drake—Nathan Drake’s daughter—it hasn’t been confirmed that any relation to Uncharted is underway. Interestingly enough, actress Kaitlyn Dever continues her ties with Naughty Dog by portraying Abby in HBO’s upcoming second season of The Last of Us.
