Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord’s highly expected naval expansion, War Sails, won’t sail into port this June as planned. Developer TaleWorlds Entertainment announced a delay, moving the release to early fall. While delays are never fun, the extra time is meant to polish the expansion and improve the base game.
The team shared, “After taking a hard look at where things stand, it became clear we won’t be ready by the originally planned release date of June 17th.” The update came after some intense discussions because the team wants to reach the quality that players expect. This means more polish and continuing work on improvements already underway.
War Sails is a bold addition, introducing the Nords faction and their Northern Kingdom, naval battles with realistic wind and water physics, and 18 distinct ships that can be upgraded with sails, rams, siege engines, and cosmetics. The expansion also adds traversable rivers, new companions, banners, tattoos, hairstyles, weapons, skills, and a bigger map featuring northern seas, islands, and rivers. Quite the package!
Alongside War Sails, a free update will add stealth and disguises, new random events, weapon types, and a parley mechanic. That’s a lot to digest, and it’s clear TaleWorlds wants to avoid rushing it out.
They’re working on a revised timeline and hope to share a new release date soon. It’s a bummer to wait longer, but considering the ambition here, it might be worth it. What do you think? Would you rather have an on-time but rough expansion, or a later release that’s more polished? Let me know in the comments!
