Monster Hunter Wilds is about to get a fresh dose of content and changes with the upcoming Ver. 1.011 update, releasing May 28. Director Yuya Tokuda has shared details on what players can expect, including a unique collaboration with Street Fighter 6, new challenging tempered monsters, and several balance and quality of life improvements. This update promises to add more layers of fun and challenge to the hunting experience.
Street Fighter 6 Collaboration: Akuma Joins the Hunt
This update introduces a unique crossover featuring Akuma as a new challenger and gear inspired by the Street Fighter series. Players can equip the Akuma full armor set or layered armor, granting access to three items on the Item Bar: Assisted Combo: Akuma, Drive Impact, and Gou Hadoken. The complete armor set even provides extra bonuses to these attacks.
The Assisted Combo: Akuma lets you chain combos by selecting the move consecutively, with the option to press [△] or [○] to activate different moves during the combo. The Drive Impact can be performed once your Drive Gauge fills via the Item Bar or by holding [L2] and pressing [R1] during a combo. Equipping Akuma’s full armor set adds an offset effect, and hitting monster wounds or weak points triggers the Shun Goku Satsu attack, which can stun monsters.
These moves can be added to your shortcut menu for easier use mid-hunt, adding a fresh layer to combat tactics. If you’re a fan of both series, this crossover offers some neat surprises to enjoy.
New 8★ Tempered Monsters and Tougher Hunts
Ver. 1.011 unlocks tempered (8★) versions of Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad for hunters at HR 41 and above. These monsters offer an alternative to the Arkveld 8★ tempered hunt and come with increased health, resistance, and adjusted multiplayer scaling. Gore Magala, in particular, is expected to provide a serious challenge.
The update also increases the frequency of higher-difficulty quests as your Hunter Rank rises, boosts the spawn rate for quests featuring multiple monsters, and raises the appearance rate of more powerful tempered monsters.
Title Update 2 Preview
Looking ahead to this summer, Title Update 2 will introduce new monsters, including more 8★ tempered and an Arch-tempered monster, promising even tougher battles. Weapon balance will continue evolving, with the Hammer receiving additional improvements such as offset effects and follow-up attacks. Dual Blades and other weapons will also see changes, keeping combat fresh.
Balance Changes and Weapon Tweaks
In Ver. 1.011, several weapons including Hammer, Hunting Horn, Gunlance, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun have been adjusted. Gunlance Artian weapons got some parameters increased. While some stats have been lowered, others have been raised, eager to broaden weapon possibilities overall. Trying out these changes might reveal some new favorite moves.
Quality of Life Enhancements
This update includes handy improvements like the ability to rest in the Grand Hub and Suja, Peaks of Accord, restoring all destroyed Pop-up Camps. When your item pouch is full, obtaining new items no longer triggers a confirmation window; items automatically go to your item box. Meal effect timers now show a countdown starting 10 minutes before expiration.
Notifications have been tweaked to reduce frequency and only show high-priority targets in the Environment Overview. Title Update 2 will further improve notifications by preventing active alerts from blocking map access. Multiplayer joining and camera behavior during hunts have also been refined to smooth the experience.
Additional Features and Improvements
In Ver. 1.011, you can now view individual endemic life you’ve captured, including fish size and weight, and mark favorites to keep them beyond storage limits. The Seikret and handler positions have been adjusted to avoid gameplay interference. Title Update 2 plans to add a character display toggle in Photo Mode and an option to turn off the glowing effects from skills and items. Layered weapons are also on the way.
Game Stability and Performance
Ongoing efforts to improve stability, especially on the Steam version, continue. Ver. 1.011 includes VRAM usage optimizations and crash fixes related to insufficient VRAM. Future updates will bring enhanced texture streaming and other performance tweaks.
Game Cycle and Rewards
Rewards for 8★ investigations and field surveys have been increased alongside the new tempered monsters. Fishing guild points have been rebalanced with some rare fish offering higher rewards and others less. Additional stronger monsters and new systems to diversify skill builds through rewards and equipment are planned for future updates.
Looking Forward
Monster Hunter Wilds will keep receiving steady support with new content and balance updates to keep the game enjoyable. The Street Fighter 6 collaboration launching May 28 is a fun surprise that blends intense brawling with monster hunting — a combo that might just disrupt your usual hunts.
