Monster Hunter Wilds has made quite an entrance, nearly reaching 1 million concurrent players on Steam during its launch. However, the excitement is tempered by some players voicing their frustrations regarding performance issues.
According to SteamDB, the game peaked at 987,482 players just five hours post-launch. As we roll into the weekend, there’s a good chance this number could rise even higher.
This remarkable figure places Monster Hunter Wilds in 8th place for all-time peaks on Steam, surpassing well-known titles like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy. It stands only behind Cyberpunk 2077, which holds an all-time peak of 1.054 million.
The numbers are particularly noteworthy compared to its predecessors; Monster Hunter World peaked at 334,684 while Monster Hunter Rise reached 231,360. These stats will surely boost Capcom‘s sales expectations moving forward.
However, not everything is rosy in the land of monster hunting. The PC version’s initial reception has been less than stellar, currently sitting at ‘Mixed’ reviews on its Steam page. While many players are enjoying the game, others have reported frustrating performance issues even with high-end setups.
“This game is so horribly optimized. The last launch I had an experience like this with was Cyberpunk. Frame gen will give you your FPS with horrid ghosting.” It’s clear that performance woes are obscuring what could be a stellar gaming experience.
The feedback isn’t all negative, though. Some players have reported smoother experiences compared to the Open Beta phase. Tankobino noted that while the beta ran “perfectly fine,” the final product feels sluggish, hinting that perhaps there’s hope for future patches to rectify these issues.
The system requirements suggest that you’ll need at least an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600 with 8GB of VRAM and 16GB of RAM to run the game properly.
Despite these early hiccups and a reported decline in profits for Capcom this fiscal year (down by about 33%), they still expect to exceed last year’s net profit mainly due to sales from Monster Hunter Wilds.
