Activision, the publisher behind the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise, has set the record straight regarding the pricing and upgrade options for the next installment, Modern Warfare 3. Fans hoping for an upgrade path from Modern Warfare 2 will be left wanting.

Activision has quashed any hopes of an upgrade option between the two titles. This means players already owning Modern Warfare 2 will not receive any discount or upgrade pricing for the latest installment, as it is not an expansion.

In a statement sent to CharlieIntel, an Activision spokesperson clarified the company’s stance on the pricing of MW3. They emphasized that Modern Warfare 3 is not an expansion but a “premium release.” As a result, the game will carry a full price tag of $70.

The spokesperson stated, “As stated in numerous Activision Blizzard quarterly conference calls, Modern Warfare III is a premium release. It will be priced accordingly at $70“.

The news was swiftly shared on Twitter by CharlieIntel, a reliable source for gaming updates. The tweet quickly garnered attention and spurred discussions among fans, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of an upgrade option and others understanding Activision’s decision given the scope and scale of the new release.
