Medal of Honor: Airborne, a 2007 classic known for its paratrooper missions, is getting a fresh shot at life thanks to a dedicated modder. IDrinkLava has pushed a massive update to the Medal of Honor: Airborne Redux Mod that aims to polish the game’s rough edges and bring it closer to current FPS standards.
The mod has been around for a while, but the new 2.0 update introduces over 120 changes touching nearly every part of the game. The goal is to cut out the jankiness and deliver a more tactical, challenging experience that feels less like a casual console shooter and more like a hardcore WWII FPS.
Medal of Honor: Airborne Redux improves display support, refines peeking and leaning mechanics, and even offers the option to remove the censorship of Nazi flags. Weapon handling has been revamped with altered recoil and faster reloads, while sniper accuracy has been boosted for a more challenging experience. Health and hitbox tweaks round out the changes, making combat feel more precise.
Why bother modding a game this old? Well, IDrinkLava believes there’s still demand for it. “We need to let EA know that there is still demand for this classic game all these years later,” the modder said. Maybe this mod could be the nudge that convinces EA to revisit the franchise. With parachuting gameplay being popular in many battle royale games, Medal of Honor: Airborne might be ready for another go.
It’s kinda impressive how a single modder can breathe new life into a nearly two-decade-old title. Not every game gets this kind of treatment, and it raises the question: Why hasn’t EA done more with the franchise? Guess they have their reasons, but fans of the series are clearly still around.
Here’s a quick look at some of the main changes in the Redux mod:
- Additional display support for modern setups
- Improved peeking and leaning mechanics
- Option to remove censorship of Nazi flags
- Major weapons overhaul with recoil and reload speed adjustments
- Increased sniper accuracy for a more challenging experience
- Health and hitbox improvements
In IDrinkLava’s words, “It’s an enhancement and gameplay overhaul mod that attempts to fix the jank that plagues this underrated WWII FPS from 2007, such as the low FOV and awkward leaning/walking controls. In addition, it rebalances the Campaign difficulty to play more like a hardcore tactical shooter instead of a casual console COD clone.” Wow, that’s a mouthful, but it hits the point.
It’s been a rough few years for game studios, with layoffs and canceled projects everywhere. Meanwhile, remasters and reworks have found success. Maybe a fresh Medal of Honor game could carve out its spot again. This mod could be the start of something bigger, or just a passion project that keeps the spirit alive.
Check out the mod and keep an eye on it. You never know if this effort might push EA to reconsider Medal of Honor. Until then, it’s cool to see a classic getting some much-needed love and polish. What do you think? Should EA reboot Medal of Honor? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
