A modder has posted a video showing Anthem running without EA’s servers, and the game’s subreddit will stay open for now after community moderators reconsidered plans to archive the forum.
The demonstration comes from YouTuber And799, who published a short proof‑of‑concept video that appears to run the Anthem client as a server. The clip shows two accounts connected at once, which Kotaku highlighted while covering the experiment. The setup is described as very preliminary and not a playable version of the game.
Members of the Fort’s Forge restoration project are said to be involved in work around the experiment. One redditor who described And799’s testing called it “a really hacky thing” and advised people to temper expectations. The effort is being treated as early testing rather than anything close to a finished private server.
There are clear hurdles. Technical challenges remain, and a legal response from EA could still halt progress. Interest generated by the demonstration prompted subreddit moderators to pause plans to move the r/AnthemTheGame community into archived read‑only mode. Moderators wrote in a now‑stickied comment that they “didn’t realize how much demand there’d still be for this forum to keep discussions going” and that continued activity will require volunteers willing to take on moderation duties so the sub can be maintained.

The current work is a proof of concept and not a restored, public Anthem experience. Even if a private server project reaches a playable state, expectation is that any renewed interest will mostly serve existing fans rather than bring back a large new player base.
