Miyazaki says that lowering Elden Ring’s difficulty would break the game

FromSoftware’s president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed some wisdom bombs in a recent interview with The Guardian. In the chat, Miyazaki addresses the never-ending debate surrounding the difficulty of FromSoftware games, and oh boy, does he have some strong opinions.

Lowering Elden Ring’s difficulty would essentially break the game. “If we really wanted the whole world to play the game, we could just crank the difficulty down more and more. But that wasn’t the right approach,” he says. And honestly, it makes a ton of sense. The challenge is what makes these games so unique.

Overcoming a tough boss or a tricky section in Elden Ring is about that rush of triumph and adrenaline, that feeling of “I did it!” which also makes you feel like a God. Turning down the difficulty would strip the game of that joy, which, in Miyazaki’s eyes, would break the game itself.

FromSoftware games are quite difficult, but they offer ways to make the challenge more manageable. Grinding for experience, leveling up your character, and summoning other players are tools in the player’s arsenal. Elden Ring, in particular, is a very hard game, but there are indeed some tricks that you could do to overcome difficulties.

Elden Ring’s first and only expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, just dropped on Friday, and we should expect furious feedback by its players, just as it’s happening right now. Recently, there was a clip of a Streamer crying over how difficult the game is and how the game broke him. God knows what else Shadow of the Erdtree would bring to the table. Just wait and see…
