Minecraft fans have something to look forward to with the announcement of the next big update, Chase the Skies. While the release date remains a mystery, this update promises to add a flying mount called the Happy Ghast, alongside fresh features and visual tweaks that could change how the game feels.
The Minecraft team teased this overhaul back in March, but only recently gave it an official name. Players eager to ride around on the Happy Ghast will have to stay patient a bit longer.
Take to the Skies
Mojang’s blog post reveals the main highlights of the Chase the Skies update. The Happy Ghast is the star attraction—a flying creature players can find, raise, and use to look at the world with friends. I even put together a guide on how to find a Happy Ghast, but of course, that’ll have to wait for the update’s arrival.
Another neat addition is the new player locator bar, designed to make tracking friends easier during multiplayer sessions—unless they’re sneaky and crouching to avoid detection.
Leads are also getting a revamp. Mojang simplified the crafting recipe to require only string, and you can now leash almost anything to anything. Imagine stringing together a caravan of camels for a desert trek or tethering boats beneath your Happy Ghast for a makeshift luggage carrier!
You might think leads are an odd thing to pop in your suitcase bundle, but with the new leads and leashing functionality coming as part of the Chase the Skies drop, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty at hand!
Not only has the crafting recipe become simpler for leads (now you only need string,) but you can leash almost anything to anything!
Leash multiple mobs together to create your very own caravan of camels to join you on your desert vacation or leash entities like boats beneath your happy ghast to create your very own luggage compartment!
On the aesthetic front, the update will introduce new music tracks and the lively Horizons visual refresh. This change aims to brighten the game’s look significantly—though you’ll have to turn it on yourself to see the difference.
