Minecraft Dungeons II’s gamescom Demo Shows Gear Tinkering and the Copper Monstrosity

The upcoming sequel will launch on September 29, 2026, with Game Pass inclusion and support across Xbox, PC, cloud, Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

A 30-minute hands-on session at gamescom 2026 showed Minecraft Dungeons II beyond its hack-and-slash core, with a central hub, minecart fast travel, deeper gear tuning, and a bruising encounter with the Copper Monstrosity.

An Xbox Wire hands-on preview published on August 26 offered a closer look at the sequel’s systems. The demo began in Brave Haven before sending players across the Overworld toward a boss fight, with several smaller quality-of-life changes appearing along the way.

Blacksmith and Enchantsmith Build More Flexible Gear

Brave Haven is home to two smiths, and both can make a big difference during a long loot chase. The Blacksmith can upgrade any owned weapon, armor piece, or other equipment to the highest power level currently available for a fee. It can also reroll a built-in buff, giving players a chance to keep a favorite item while adjusting it for a different build.

The Enchantsmith handles a different kind of gear work. Players will find Enchant Books during their adventures, then bring them to the smith to add new effects. The required currency comes from new Soul Corrupted enemies.

Examples shown during the demo included enchantments that could improve dodge-roll frequency, fire arrows during a dodge, or add a fire effect to arrows. Combining options like those could create some wonderfully strange ability chains. One menu, several effects, and suddenly a simple bow build starts behaving like it has its own little fireworks department.

The Copper Monstrosity Brings Lightning to the Boss Fight

After the gear setup, the demo used a minecart to move from Brave Haven to a stop near the next destination. The shortcut did not remove the danger, though, as dozens of mobs still stood between the player and the tower where the Copper Monstrosity waited.

The fight began with the copper boss throwing heavy punches that demanded careful dodging. It soon added lightning area-of-effect attacks, sparks that crawled across the floor before detonating, and dashes that crossed the entire arena. The encounter pushed players to use bows, swords, Artifacts, and defensive abilities together instead of saving everything for later.

Cooldowns stayed brief during the demo, keeping the combat moving at a quick pace. The Copper Monstrosity could still remove large chunks of health in seconds, so charging forward had to be balanced with paying attention to its attack patterns.

Quick Inventory Access Helps Couch Co-op

Minecraft Dungeons II is also adding a faster way to manage equipment during multiplayer sessions. Pressing up on the D-pad opens the regular inventory, while holding the button brings up a smaller menu on the screen. Each couch co-op player can open their own mini-menu at the same time, which should reduce the pauses caused by one shared screen and several players sorting through loot.

Players who enjoy spending more time on character builds will have an Effects and Enchantments menu to study. It gathers the effects from weapons, armor, and talismans into one list, making it easier to see how each item is affecting a build and which pieces may be worth changing.

Minecraft Dungeons II will launch on September 29, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud, and it will be included with Game Pass. Xbox Play Anywhere will support play across console and PC at no additional cost. The game will also be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
