Microsoft will charge more for Xbox consoles on August 1

The new pricing takes effect on August 1, 2026, and Microsoft is ending the 2TB Xbox Series X model instead of replacing it.

Microsoft said Xbox console prices will rise worldwide on August 1, 2026, with some models going up by as much as $150. The company pointed to steep memory and storage costs as the main reason, saying those parts have climbed by more than 2.5x and could double again by fall 2027.

The other big change is the Xbox Series X 2TB model. Microsoft is discontinuing it outright, which leaves the 1TB version as the highest-storage option in the current lineup.

Here’s what Xbox hardware will cost

Xbox Model Old Price New Price Change
Xbox Series S 512GB $399.99 $499.99 +$100
Xbox Series S 1TB $449.99 $599.99 +$150
Xbox Series X 1TB Digital $599.99 $749.99 +$150
Xbox Series X 1TB $649.99 $799.99 +$150
Xbox Series X 2TB $799.99 Discontinued

The increase is not limited to one region. Microsoft said the new pricing applies globally, and the jump comes after a previous round of U.S. price increases last October that ranged from $20 to $70. At the time, the company had framed that move as a one-time adjustment.

Microsoft said it spent several months working with suppliers before landing on the new pricing. It is also trying to soften the blow with financing and resale options, including Buy Now, Pay Later through Microsoft Stores, 0% APR financing for up to 12 months through Amazon, trade-in programs with retail partners, and certified refurbished consoles sold at up to $100 off MSRP.

For now, the hardware itself is staying the same. What changes is how much players will pay to get it, and how much longer the 2TB model will remain on shelves before it disappears completely.
