Microsoft Flight Simulator takes a fresh look at the Midwest

City Update 15 went live on June 12, 2026 with new scenery work for Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and it tied into FlightSimExpo 2026 in St. Paul.

Microsoft Flight Simulator takes a fresh look at the Midwest with City Update 15, which arrived on June 12, 2026. The free update covers Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, with Chicago, Minneapolis–St. Paul, and Milwaukee all getting the spotlight.

The update adds eight areas of interest across the three states and uses high-fidelity TIN surface texturing to tighten up the terrain. Illinois includes Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights. Minnesota adds Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine. Wisconsin rounds things out with Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine.

The timing also matched FlightSimExpo 2026, which ran from June 12-14, 2026, at the St. Paul RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 owners got the update for free, but they still needed the latest simulator version installed before downloading it. Microsoft also lists Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and through Xbox Cloud Gaming, with Game Pass, Windows, and Steam support.
