Mewgenics, the new roguelike from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, has rocketed to one of Steam’s largest concurrent player counts for the genre. On February 11, 2026 the game reached a peak of 83,956 concurrent players on Steam, according to tracking referenced by GamesRadar and SteamDB.
The game pairs McMillen’s design history with The Binding of Isaac and Glaiel’s work on The End is Nigh. Mewgenics was in development for roughly 14 years, including a prior cancellation, and launched to strong critical and commercial reception. It became the first game to earn a 90-plus rating in 2026 and reportedly recouped its development budget in about three hours after release.
Those Steam peaks put Mewgenics ahead of The Binding of Isaac‘s all-time concurrent high of 70,701 players, which occurred around the Repentance expansion in 2021. The comparison to Isaac and other roguelikes comes from player-tracking data on SteamDB and coverage by GamesRadar.
Tyler Glaiel acknowledged the milestone on X, writing that “Mew has more concurrent players than Isaac’s peak now. Crazy.” The same thread notes that, after passing Vampire Survivors’ peak, the only remaining roguelike with a larger peak is Hades 2, which logged a launch peak of 112,947 concurrent players last September. Glaiel commented that “this seems like a very tough boss” when discussing the gap to Hades 2. Glaiel’s X post is part of the public conversation around these numbers.

Sales have matched the player interest. Glaiel confirmed that Mewgenics sold roughly half a million units within the first 36 hours of release. Those figures, combined with the critical response and the early budget recovery, mark an unusually rapid commercial start for a strategy-leaning roguelike.
Part of the game’s narrative appeal is that McMillen views The Binding of Isaac as an early experiment on the way to Mewgenics. That context helps explain why comparisons to Isaac have followed the release. For a strategy-oriented roguelike to reach these peaks is notable because many genre standouts are action focused.
