Metal Gear Solid 4 Will Run at 4K and 60 FPS on PS5

Peace Walker also gets several display modes, with its high-resolution option sharpening the game's hand-drawn cutscenes.

Konami has revealed the visual specifications for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker ahead of their arrival in Metal Gear Master Collection Vol. 2 on PS5. The collection is scheduled to launch on August 27, 2026.

On both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro, Metal Gear Solid 4 will output at 4K and run at 60 frames per second. That gives the PS3 classic a higher frame rate and a resolution increase over its original version, which reached 1080p at its best.

Konami has also listed four options for Peace Walker: Original Mode, Adjusted Mode, High Resolution Mode, and Custom Mode. The game will support 4K resolution and 60 FPS, but the clearest difference should appear in its hand-drawn cutscenes.

According to Konami’s technical specifications, High Resolution Mode reduces the blur present in the original cutscenes and produces a sharper image. The comparison video below shows how the scenes differ between versions.

Metal Gear Master Collection Vol. 2 will bring both games to PS5 alongside bonus digital items and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the Game Boy Color spin-off.

The new versions remain closer to ports than full remasters, but the resolution and frame-rate improvements should give Metal Gear Solid 4 a cleaner presentation. Peace Walker appears to receive the more visible work, especially in its animated story scenes.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final canonical Metal Gear game to feature Solid Snake as the main character. The gameplay of the previous games have been kept along with some new features, such as the ability to roll on your back and also to hide in bins scattered around the environment. Most of the story and the relationship between the characters are explained through cut-scenes with a considerable length, so knowledge of the prior games is recommended to fully understand the story. The game also features a complex multiplayer mode entitled Metal Gear Online with some original missions based on the stealth aspects of the single-player games.
