Mega Charizard is eager to get another spotlight in the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the upcoming Inferno X set, scheduled to launch in Japan this September. This release marks the continuation of the Mega Pokémon era, following the Scarlet and Violet chapter.
The Pokémon TCG is wrapping up the Scarlet and Violet era with the Black Bolt and White Flare dual set later this year, but the spotlight is already shifting to Mega Pokémon, those unique evolved forms that require Mega Stones. These forms first appeared in Pokémon X and Y and have been on a bit of a break since then, but they’re making a comeback in the TCG and in Pokémon Legends: Z-A later this year.
According to Pokebeach, the Inferno X set will be the second installment in the Mega era, following the Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia sets, which will be released in August. Inferno X is expected to feature Mega Charizard X prominently, which hints that an Inferno Y set starring Mega Charizard Y might drop alongside it.
Meanwhile, the English Pokémon TCG will receive its first-ever dual set, Black Bolt and White Flare, in July. This set will include all 156 Unova Pokémon and introduce a new rarity, adding fresh excitement for collectors and players.
Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company addressed the ongoing scarcity of Pokémon cards, acknowledging the high demand and promising to print more cards to restock retailers as quickly as possible. Their statement read:
“We’re aware that some fans are experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products due to very high demand impacting availability. We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to acknowledge this. Reprinted products are expected to be available at participating retailers as soon as possible.”
For those who’ve been hunting for cards, this is a hopeful sign that supply issues may ease soon.
