The Meccha Chameleon team has addressed rumors that the game contains a Remote Access Trojan, or RAT, after a hacker compromised the game’s official Discord server. In a Steam announcement about game safety, the developer said there is no virus or malware embedded in the game.
The rumors claimed that the newest update included a RAT and that players needed to follow specific steps to remove or fix it. The developer called those claims false and said it has never added anything of that kind to Meccha Chameleon.
The announcement also explained that compromising a developer’s personal computer would not give someone the ability to publish a game update through Steam. Steam’s developer infrastructure prevents an attacker from releasing an update simply by gaining access to one PC.
The Discord breach does not affect the game
The safety clarification follows the disclosure that the official Meccha Chameleon Discord server was compromised. The developer said the game and Discord are not integrated, meaning the server breach has no effect on the game’s safety.
Players who were members of the affected Discord server do not need to treat the game as compromised based on that connection. The team said Meccha Chameleon remains safe to play.
