Massive Effect: The BioWare Story Is Slated for a 2027 Premiere
Akash Sherman will write and direct the film, with Fennessey Films and Score G Productions co-producing.

Massive Effect: The BioWare Story is planned for a 2027 world premiere at major film festivals. The documentary will trace BioWare from its 1995 founding through its 2026 closure, including the closure announcement, the community’s response, and layoffs affecting 400 employees. Filming began about two years before EA announced BioWare’s closure on Oct. 21.
Canada’s Super Channel commissioned the film, with support from the Canada Media Fund. Akash Sherman will write and direct it, with Fennessey Films and Score G Productions co-producing.
The documentary’s announced participants include BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip, along with Casey Hudson, game director of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, and former Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello are also among them, as are The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley, The Electric Playground creator Victor Lucas, and voice actor Jennifer Hale.
BioWare developers Mark Darrah, David Gaider, Drew Karpyshyn, Aaryn Flynn, Mac Walters, Trent Oster, James Ohlen, and Caroline Livingstone round out the announced participants.
The film’s website invites fans to share memories and materials, including fan art, cosplay, convention photos and videos, personal memorabilia, footage of their experiences with the games, and stories about what BioWare’s games have meant to them. Producers plan to feature a small selection of those contributions in the documentary.
