Bryan Andrews, writer, director, and executive producer of Marvel Zombies, says there’s more to Bucky Barnes’ story than viewers saw in season 1, and some of that material was set aside rather than squeezed in. That matters because the show left many threads dangling after its brutal first run, and Andrews suggests that one of those threads could be picked up later.
Andrews told Brandon Davis in a Phase Hero interview that the team was aware of the situation with several characters who did not appear on screen. “There’s still a few out there, though. We know what’s going on with certain people that didn’t even appear in this thing. The story we were writing was so big, and there was so much that there was no way to put it all together, and we didn’t want to shortchange some of the cool stuff,” he said.
On Bucky specifically, Andrews was coy but clear that there was meat left on the bone. “So there’s this whole side to Bucky that I won’t go into that we know exactly what’s up, like, totally. Because we had him for this and we just couldn’t get it in there so, instead of shortchanging him because the stuff was I felt was really cool, it’s like we don’t want to shortchange, so maybe it’s best if we just move it off to the side,” he teased.
There’s no official season 2 yet. Executive producer Brad Winderbaum told Screen Rant that subscriptions could help change that. “Yes, yes. Subscribe to Disney+ and watch the show, maybe we’ll have the opportunity to tell more stories,” he said, adding that the creators keep talking about the wider Marvel Zombies lore like a running campaign.
This is a tease that matters to anyone who wants closure for characters left out of the carnage, especially Bucky. Share thoughts in the comments and follow us on X and Bluesky.
