Marvel Rivals is now roughly 40 GB smaller on PC after NetEase repackaged the game’s texture assets as part of the Season 9.5 update. The change targets storage space rather than the game’s visual presentation, with the developer saying players should see the same level of detail on screen.
Creative director Guangyun Chen discussed the work in a video interview, describing the texture overhaul as a way to reduce the install size “without sacrificing a single pixel of visual fidelity.”
There is an upfront tradeoff. NetEase warned that the initial Season 9.5 update would be larger than usual while the files were reorganized, but the completed installation would take up far less space afterward.
Storage savings reach beyond the PC version
The compression work also covers consoles. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were expected to lose about 15 GB, according to the August 7 storage update breakdown.
NetEase has not explained whether the reduction came from removing duplicate data, changing the compression method, or a mix of both. Either way, the result gives PC players a much smaller Marvel Rivals installation while keeping the game’s visible texture quality intact.
