NetEase Games has confirmed that Marvel Rivals Season 4 and a native PS4 version will arrive on September 12, the developer announced today. This matters because last-gen Xbox One owners were omitted, leaving that platform without a new build.
Season 4 introduces a new Vanguard hero, Angela, and reveals Daredevil as the second hero to arrive during the season. It’s baffling. While the PS4 and Xbox One share similar hardware, NetEase Games chose not to produce an Xbox One build, which raises questions about technical effort, audience reach, and cost priorities for older consoles.
Alongside the new heroes, Season 4 adds a new map, a fresh mode, and several quality-of-life changes aimed at making matches easier to jump into. Players will find Conquest, Doom Match, Conquest (Annihilation), Free Fight, Giant-Size Brain Blast, and Clone Rumble grouped inside a single Arcade Mode hub. A new “Favorites Bar” will let players pin commonly used heroes for faster access as the roster grows. There are concerns about how the PS4 version will handle heavy ability effects, given that even PS5 sometimes struggles with intense ability spam.
There are also reports that NetEase may design original heroes for the game, though many players would prefer more established Marvel characters first. Porting to other older or upcoming platforms may be hindered by developer access to devkits, which has been a reported hurdle for some teams working on newer hardware.
