Marvel Rivals Player Count Drops, But It’s Still Very Popular

Marvel Rivals has experienced a noticeable decline in its Steam player count over recent months, raising concerns among fans and analysts. Although this might seem worrying at first glance, the game continues to hold a strong position on the platform, reminding us that numbers don’t always tell the whole story.

Launched in December of last year, Marvel Rivals is an Overwatch-style live-service shooter that quickly gained traction. At its peak in January 2025, the game boasted an impressive 644,269 concurrent players on Steam. That’s a figure many games would dream of.

Since then, the player count has steadily decreased month after month, except for a slight uptick in April. As of July, the game’s concurrent players stand at 163,232. Yes, that’s a big drop, but it’s still quite a lot of people enjoying the game.

Here’s where context really matters. Even with this decline, Marvel Rivals stays among the most played games on Steam. It’s easy to jump to conclusions and say the game is dying, but that overlooks the fact that these numbers are still very high compared to many other titles.

That said, publisher NetEase will likely be looking closely at these trends. Even a big company like that doesn’t take a decline lightly, no matter how much internet chatter there is about player numbers.

So, what’s your take? Do you think Marvel Rivals needs to take action to increase those numbers? Or should we all just chill out and stop stressing about Steam stats so much? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
