Marvel Rivals players are in for a fresh update arriving on July 17, bringing both balance changes and a new event. The patch will notably nerf Wolverine, whose combination with Jean Grey has been a bit too strong, while also kicking off a Summer Special swimsuit event featuring new costumes.
After the large Season 3 patch was released last week, NetEase is moving quickly with this follow-up update. Wolverine’s survivability is getting toned down, addressing some concerns about his power level.
Update Details for July 17
The Summer Special event will give players the chance to dress their heroes in swimsuits, something many fans have been asking for. Participants will receive Thor’s “Worthy Waves” outfit for free, while upgrading the Battle Pass will unlock Luna Snow’s “Cool Summer” and The Thing’s “Sunshine Thing” costumes.
There will also be new costumes available in the in-game store, including limited-time bundles for Psylocke and Loki, plus new color variants for several outfits. Ability VFX customizations for Psylocke and Luna Snow’s ultimate abilities will also be added.

Now, about Wolverine’s nerfs: his Berserk Claw Strike base damage is actually going up from 6 to 8, but the percentage damage per attack at max Rage will drop from 4.5% to 3.5%. His regenerative healing factor cooldown is increasing from 90 to 105 seconds, with cooldown reduction during KOs also slightly increased.
Wolverine’s “Primal Flame” Team-Up with The Phoenix is getting a hit too, with lifesteal during Phoenix Warrior reduced from 33% to 25%. It seems Logan’s claws won’t be quite as sharp for a while.
Bug Fixes and Other Changes
- Monster Hulk’s Smash Mishaps: A glitch where Monster Hulk’s Ultimate could display incorrectly if the target was on a portal during the grab animation has been fixed. Now, Hulk’s smash is straightforward with no portal-related oddities.
- Magneto’s Magnetized Mix-ups: Fixed an issue where Magneto sometimes suffered negative effects when blocking Cloak’s Terror Cape with Metallic Curtain. His defenses should now hold strong.
Another quality-of-life update lets players earn Accessory Points by practicing against AI, which is handy for those who want to improve without jumping straight into PvP.
In related news, Blade’s first gameplay has surfaced, and he’s will be released in the Season 3 mid-season update. NetEase is also thinking about adding a fan-voting feature for future hero additions, which could be a fun way to see your favorite heroes join the roster.
