Marvel Rivals Has Increased Speech Penalties and Pledges More Moderation
Penalties will reflect a violation's severity and a player's history, with tougher consequences for severe or repeated offenses.

NetEase has increased penalties for speech violations in Marvel Rivals, with tougher sanctions for severe or repeated offenses. In its October 15 announcement, the developer said disciplinary action for verified violations depends on their nature and severity, as well as the player’s history.

The rules cover both text and voice chat. NetEase identified insults, malicious harassment, discrimination, and hate speech as behavior that harms communication during matches. A dedicated Moderation Policy page is now available to explain the speech rules and related mechanics. NetEase says it wants to preserve players’ ability to express themselves while acting against malicious speech, and encourages players to report violations in game.
Speech moderation remains an ongoing effort, with NetEase planning to refine how its systems identify, review, and penalize toxic speech. Enforcing tougher rules also means distinguishing abuse from ordinary chat. Some players have described racial harassment as a reason for stepping away from the game, while others say complimentary uses of swear words can still be flagged and have called for human review. Those are individual accounts, not a measure of how often moderation errors occur: one player’s description of harassment, reports of mistaken flags, and a request for human review.
