Phoenix has just joined Marvel Rivals as part of the new season, bringing powerful abilities and fresh voice lines that stir up some interesting chatter about the roster’s future. While she’s obviously a force to reckon with, it’s the brief mention of another fan favourite—Kitty Pryde—that really caught my attention.
In the pre-game lobby, during a quick exchange, Peter Quill asks Jean Grey if she’s “talked to Kitty Pryde recently,” to which Jean replies she hasn’t but remembers Peter well. It’s a tiny moment that’s got a lot of folks wondering if Kitty might be on her way to Marvel Rivals. Sounds promising, right? But here’s the twist: her signature power to phase through solid objects might be a nightmare to implement.
Think about it. Marvel Rivals already features destructible environments, so walls can be blasted away by anyone, which kinda makes Kitty’s phasing a bit redundant. Plus, allowing a character to phase through the map raises all sorts of questions about map boundaries and fairness. Imagine her slipping into spots no one else can reach or falling off the map because of a miscalculation. Yikes.
One possible fix could be limiting her phasing to briefly dodging enemy attacks. But that might just frustrate players even more. Picture finally cornering Kitty Pryde, only for her to phase right out of your ultimate. I’d be ready to rage quit myself.
NetEase has a huge Marvel universe to pick from, which is both interesting and complicated. Their choices so far seem tied to movie promos or themed seasons, like the Fantastic Four or Emma Frost’s Hellfire Gala appearance. There’s even talk about letting players vote on new heroes, which sounds like a neat idea. Still, with promises of monthly additions, it won’t be long before more favorites show up, maybe even Kitty.
Watching Phoenix interact with characters like Storm, Hela, Groot, and Star Lord adds layers to the game’s narrative. The voice lines reveal old friendships and cosmic musings, giving us a glimpse of the bigger Marvel tapestry being woven here. It’s moments like these that make me hope the devs find a way to work Kitty’s phasing without breaking the game.
What do you think? Should Kitty Pryde join Marvel Rivals despite these tricky powers?
