Marvel Rivals’ Community Has Grown Far Beyond the Matches
More than 4.4 million people now belong to the hero shooter's Discord, while its reported player base has topped 40 million worldwide.

Marvel Rivals has built a community that reaches well beyond its matches. Its Discord now has more than 4.4 million members, making it the largest gaming community on Discord.
Disney executive Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment, discussed the game’s reach in a Disney video and blog post. He described games as places where people socialize, create, and express their identities, while noting that younger audiences increasingly encounter major Disney brands through games.
Marvel Rivals was presented as a clear example of that trend. The hero shooter had reportedly attracted more than 40 million players worldwide since its 2024 launch, with 60% of its audience under the age of 24.
The 40 million-player milestone predates the latest Discord figure by more than a year, so the two numbers should not be treated as simultaneous measurements. Even so, they show how far the game’s reach extends beyond the people loading into matches each day.
Marvel Rivals’ player total also provides a fresh comparison point with Overwatch, although the available figures measure different things. The original paid release sold upwards of 50 million copies, according to Bloomberg. Blizzard has not published a recent Overwatch player total, and the game’s later move to free-to-play makes its sales figure an imperfect comparison with Marvel Rivals’ player count.
Marvel Rivals is building social spaces inside and outside the game
NetEase has also added more room for players to spend time together inside the game. Hellfire Bay Beach arrived as Marvel Rivals’ second social hub during summer 2026, giving players a place to hang out away from its regular matches.
The audience has made an impact on streaming, too. Marvel Rivals generated more than 285 million Twitch viewing hours throughout 2025, adding a large spectator presence to its already sizable player and Discord communities.
Season 9 brought a Team-Up overhaul, and the ongoing Path to Doomsday event has kept new content in front of players. Alongside its social hub, those additions give the community more reasons to remain active between competitive games.
A Season 9.5 developer video also documented the game’s latest content push:
With more than 4.4 million Discord members and a reported player base of over 40 million, Marvel Rivals has become a major example of how a live-service shooter can function as both a game and a gathering place. Its popularity among younger players also explains why Disney sees games as an important way to connect audiences with its characters and worlds.
