Bungie released a cinematic trailer for Marathon ahead of the game’s impending server slam. The clip was posted to YouTube prior to the test and highlights a single intense moment meant to sell the extraction shooter’s tone.
The sequence follows a Rook. The Rook is a lone Runner searching for scraps. After a climactic fight the Runner moves to prise loot from an enemy that looks dead. The opponent suddenly springs back to life. The Rook fires a series of quick shots and those shots draw the attention of a nearby team. The trailer makes clear this is cinematic footage and not gameplay.
After a shaky reveal period, Marathon’s marketing has been more consistent in recent weeks. The new trailer leans into the visual motifs Bungie has used to shape the game’s identity, and it emphasizes the tension inherent in an extraction match where looting and revives can become lethal.
The server slam gets underway this weekend from 26th February. So, are you ready for it, or not?
