Modder gabdeg has released the first version of an RTX Remix Mod for Manhunt that might catch the attention of fans wanting a fresh look at this classic. The mod adds full path-traced lighting and high-resolution textures to all 20 levels, allowing players to experience the entire game with updated visuals that utilize path-tracing technology.
To achieve this, the modder replaced the original lighting system by switching between the original graphics and the new RTX Remix visuals during gameplay. Since Manhunt‘s original lights didn’t work with path tracing, they were removed. Lights were then placed manually on objects and throughout the levels. This careful process involved adjusting the color, strength, size, and angle of each light to ensure every corner of every level is bright enough without appearing off.
Texture improvements were made using PBRFusion 3.0, followed by manual edits in Photoshop and Paint.NET to fine-tune elements such as color, shininess, bumps, and depth. If anything looked too shiny or rough, it was adjusted by hand. Emissive maps were added to elements such as windows, monitors, neon signs, and signal lights, which help the path tracing visuals stand out even in this early stage of the mod.
For anyone interested, the mod is available for download from this link. There’s also a trailer below that shows what the mod looks like in action.
Do you think path tracing will become more common in mods for older games? I’m curious whether this kind of lighting upgrade can breathe new life into classics without altering their core gameplay. Either way, it’s a neat way to revisit Manhunt with a fresh coat of paint. If you try the mod, please share your thoughts below.
