MADFINGER Will Penalize Close to 40 Gray Zone Warfare Accounts for Exploit Abuse

The item duplication exploit involved helicopter deaths, affected the in-game economy, and has already been fixed in a hotfix.

MADFINGER Games has identified close to 40 Gray Zone Warfare accounts for deliberately abusing an item duplication exploit, and it will issue temporary suspensions and account wipes this week. The developer detailed the findings in its Steam security report.

The exploit appeared during the Update 0.4 cycle and involved specific circumstances surrounding death by helicopter. It allowed players to duplicate items, but MADFINGER said a later hotfix addressed the issue and that it is no longer replicable.

Duplicated resources affected the in-game economy and the PvP experience. Some players used them to gain an unfair advantage, including purchasing and repeatedly using large quantities of mortar strikes against other players.

How MADFINGER is handling the exploit

MADFINGER said its investigation had concluded after reviewing the available evidence and the extent of each account’s abuse. The resulting measures will include temporary account suspensions and account wipes for the accounts identified during the investigation.

The developer also thanked players who reported the exploit and continued playing in good faith while the investigation was underway. It said the goal is to maintain a fair experience for everyone.

More Gray Zone Warfare security reports are planned

MADFINGER described the announcement as the first step in providing more visibility into its fair-play enforcement. The studio plans to share more information about its broader anti-cheat work and upcoming improvements, including a security report covering penalties issued during the Update 0.4 cycle.
