LGD Gaming will enter Dota 2‘s The International 2026 without its mid laner Santiago “TaiLung” Agüero Gustavo after tournament organizers ruled him ineligible over a competitive-integrity issue. PGL has also permanently barred the 17-year-old from all of its events.
LGD announced the decision on Aug. 9, with TI 2026 approaching in Shanghai, China. The organization said it learned of information concerning a potential competitive-integrity violation involving TaiLung, opened an internal review, and reported the matter to the relevant tournament organizers.
Following the investigation, organizers ruled that TaiLung could not compete at TI 2026. PGL’s separate sanction covers every PGL event on a permanent basis. LGD said it respected the decision and would complete the procedures required under the tournament rules.
In its announcement on X, LGD said, “Fair competition and competitive integrity are fundamental to professional esports,” adding that it would continue cooperating with tournament organizers whenever concerns about possible violations arise. Neither LGD nor the organizers publicly detailed the specific conduct that led to the bans.

Valve has already outlined supporter bundles, match predictions, fantasy features, and rewards in its International 2026 update. LGD must now complete a roster change before the tournament begins.
LGD needs a new mid laner before TI 2026
The ban leaves LGD searching for a replacement with the world championship close at hand. Tournament organizers approved a special roster adjustment, and the team said its remaining players would continue preparing for TI 2026 as scheduled. LGD will announce its final roster after the necessary procedures are complete.
TaiLung joined HEROIC in January 2026 before LGD acquired the squad in May. The Peruvian mid laner quickly became one of South America’s brightest young prospects.
At BLAST Slam VII in June, TaiLung recorded more than 275,000 hero damage as Zeus during a 111-minute game against Aurora Gaming, setting a professional Dota 2 record for single-game hero damage.
ESIC’s July suspensions involved two other South American figures
The decision came less than a month after the Esports Integrity Commission provisionally suspended two other South American Dota 2 figures. On July 14, ESIC suspended Peruvian mid laner Oswaldo “DarkMago” Herrera and coach Juan “Vintage” Angulo of PTime, also known as PlayTime, during the 2026 Esports World Cup.
ESIC said the suspensions followed a preliminary review of information related to suspected breaches of its Anti-Corruption Code and Player Code of Conduct. DarkMago and Vintage were barred from competing in the Esports World Cup and ESIC member competitions while the investigation continued.
PlayTime and LGD had also faced each other for South America’s lone TI 2026 slot, with LGD winning the deciding series 3-0.
Dota 2 figures react to TaiLung’s ban
The ruling quickly drew disappointed reactions from across the competitive Dota 2 scene. Team Liquid coach William “Blitz” Lee wrote in an X post that Liquid had considered bringing in TaiLung and building around him if Nisha took a break or left the team. Blitz called the outcome a waste and praised LGD for refusing to continue with a player he described as a match-fixer.
Former pro player and analyst Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann described the news on X as sad and said he had been rooting for TaiLung. Streamer Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski called the ban one of the biggest “what if” moments in Dota 2.
Those reactions used match-fixing language, but LGD’s announcement did not disclose the specific behavior behind the ruling, and the organizers have not publicly detailed it. The confirmed outcome is TaiLung’s exclusion from TI 2026 and his permanent ban from PGL events.
